You really CAN drum!

There is a saying attributed to many African countries that includes the phrase “If you have hands, you can drum.” My experience tells me that not only is this true but that if your heart is beating that you ARE drumming. Additionally, the wisdom of this phrase implies that drumming is an all-inclusive activity best shared in the community. Join us for a two hour drumming experience where we will venture through the delightful world of Brazilian Samba drumming. We will learn just enough basic technique then dive into learning simple samba drum parts that will interweave to create a magical community drumming celebration. No experience necessary and all skill levels welcome. Bring a djembe, conga, ashiko or other chalice-shaped drum, and your enthusiasm.

Gayan Gregory Long is an internationally acclaimed drummer and composer. Gayan has performed and taught worldwide, from India to Russia, Thailand to South America, and throughout the United States. His teaching style is inclusive, affirming, and fun. Gayan’s thousands of students worldwide range in skill and experience from happy beginning recreational drummers to top flight performing and recording artists. He has appeared on fifty-five recording projects and has two CDs: Padma Thunder and When Two or More are Gathered.
