How to order a custom slab table from CS Woods:

A custom solid wood slab table is more than furniture—it’s a living piece of art, a centerpiece of home life, and a legacy that can last generations. At CS Woods, we've refined a process that blends client collaboration, craftsmanship, transparency, and logistical excellence to turn your vision into a stunning, durable custom piece. Below is your guide to how it happens—from first contact to delivery day—and how you can take part every step of the way.

Vision & Initial Inquiry

Dream it, sketch it, share it

Your journey begins when you reach out—via our Request a Custom Quote page. At this stage, we invite you to share as much as possible: your rough idea, photos of the space, dimensions, style references, preferred species, or finishes.

Some clients come with architectural plans or CAD files; others begin with nothing but a dream and a mood board. That's totally fine — it’s our job to help you shape and refine.

Collaborative design consultation

Once we understand your vision, our team works with you via phone, email, and sometimes in-person to explore:

  • Species, tone, and character (grain, figure, live edge or clean edge)
  • Table footprint (length × width × thickness)
  • Edge style, overhangs, and base design
  • Final placement (will you need beams, supports, or structural allowances?)
  • Surface finish preferences
  • Timeline, budget expectations, and delivery considerations

At CS Woods, we’re not just selling solid wood surfaces — we’re guiding you through each decision so the end result is breathtaking and functional.

Slab Selection: Hand-Pick the Natural Canvas

Visit or browse inventory

We offer two ways to choose your slab:

  • In person at our Denver warehouse (open to the public). As noted on our Work With Us page, many clients bring their architects or families to walk the stacks, feel the slabs, see the colors, and be part of that magic.
  • Virtually, by sending you handpicked options with high-resolution photos, videos, dimension data, and grain details so you can compare remotely.

Match slab to design

Once you’ve narrowed your favorites, we’ll consult with you on which slab works best for the form and design you want. Some slabs have more character including voids, and/or movement challenges—we’ll flag those and discuss design including fills.

Once you approve, that slab is reserved for your project, ensuring no one else takes it.

Design Finalization & Quoting

Detailed drawings & measurement

Using your slab selection and design inputs, we’ll create drawings or mockups (2D or 3D) to help you visualize your future table in its space. We’ll review dimensions, edge details, base options, and clearance details.

At this stage, we also confirm logistics: how it will be shipped or installed, passage door widths, elevator limits, etc.

Formal Quote & Deposit

We send you a transparent quote based on your project. This can include slab cost, fabrication, finish, base, and even the installation or delivery. Once accepted, a deposit is collected (typically a portion to cover the slab cost). After deposit, your project goes into the production schedule!

Lead times may vary, but generally you're looking at 8–10 weeks from deposit to delivery, though we’ll proactively communicate updates.

Fabrication: From Slab to Table

Milling & leveling

We mill the slab to your chosen thickness, flatten surfaces, joint edges (if bookmatched), refine edges, and address cracks or voids with matching inserts or epoxy fills.

Joinery & base fitting

If your design includes multiple slabs or bookmatched pieces, we’ll join them using strong connectors. We’ll also prepare the underside geometry for base mounting and hidden steel structure, if needed.

Finish application & curing

Your slab is sanded carefully (progressing through grits) and then finished. We allow proper cure times and test for depth, adhesion, and finish stability.

During this time, our project team may share photos and check-ins so you can see progress and confirm details!

Pre-Delivery Preparation & Packing

Quality assurance & inspection

Before shipping or installation, your table undergoes final inspection! We will send you photos or have you come in and look at your new piece.

Protective packaging

Your table is carefully crated or wrapped with high-grade materials, bracing, and padding to prepare for transit. We pack any detachable parts (legs, bolts) separately and label everything.

Final logistics planning

We coordinate delivery or installation with your schedule. If your job is residential, commercial, or tight-access, we may plan lift-gates, rigging, scheduling times, etc.

Delivery, Installation & Walkthrough

We bring the table to your site, inspect the route, carry it in, and install it in its final location. We level, anchor, and align the base, and perform a final quality check with you.

We also provide instructions on care and maintenance down the road.

Aftercare & Legacy

Your custom table comes with our support. Whether you want to refinish, repair, or tweak it decades later, CS Woods is here. We view each piece as part of your legacy — not a one-off transaction.
