Myrtle Slabs

This Myrtle table was built from a CSWoods supplied slab by Walnut Street Woodworks. Walnut Street Woodworks is a Denver based builder of custom wood furniture and built-in cabinetry, and a client and friend of ours. The species the table was built from Oregon Myrtle, also called California Bay Laurel or Umbellularia, and is native to coastal forests of western North America. A very hard species of wood with a fine grain, smaller pieces are often made into bowls, spoons, and other small items. Large slabs of this material, like those below, make beautiful mantles and furniture tops. The grain color is usually glossy golden and brown and many pieces have consistent rippling figure.
