NEWS! Kent is in California this week supervising the milling of claro walnut.  Californian claro walnut is known for its rich color and figure. The lumber will soon be trucked here to southern Colorado, where our semi-arid climate is conducive to drying and storing dry lumber.  It will be stickered to allow air movement around each plank, and when it reaches 10%MC it will be put into our solar kiln and dried to 6%. This process may take as little as one year or many years depending on the thickness and density.

HIGHLIGHT: 6" Cherry Lumber

About Figure
The figure of highly decorative woods can happen in different ways. Ray fleck occurs in some quarter sawn woods,  fiddleback results from wavy growth patterns, ribbon comes from alternating grain directions, and growths caused by abnormal cellular division yield burl. All are prized by woodworkers. While any stack of wood is likely to contain some figured material, it takes a good deal of sorting to gather a group of wood with similar figure. This is part of the reason for its higher cost.

Looking for a great oil finishing product?
After many years of searching, CSWoods has found one we really like. Land Ark Oil was developed for the log home industry but also works exceptionally well for fine furniture. It is an organic combination of oils, wax and citrus thinner, without driers. It is easy to use; Thin Ark Oil should be used first to penetrate deep into the wood, followed by Thick Ark Oil to build a smooth finish with depth. The finish is highly resistant to water and alcohol. It is forgiving and easy to clean, brighten and repair on any woodwork. It is suitable for interior and exterior applications. We are so happy with this product that we decided to supply Land Ark Oil to our customers. It is available in quarts, $12.75 and gallons, $51.00. Please inquire about savings on greater quantities.
