NEWS - New FSC certified and reclaimed stock from the Northwest
Reclaimed Douglas Fir and Oak

CSWoods now carries FSC certified and reclaimed wood from the Northwest. Reclaimed wood has some really great environmental, structural, and aesthetic benefits. The age of the material makes it dry and more stable and thus it has fewer problems with swelling and warping. Because it is salvaged, the quality is usually something you can no longer find new, and much of it is more denser, clearer (fewer knots), and has a much richer color than new growth. The patina of this aged wood is remarkable. We encourage you to consider this type of material for your next project, and would be happy to answer any questions you have about it.

Bark Art - Jan works to make the "defects" beautiful.
Woodworkers often run into what are considered defects. These include knots, holes, inclusions of bark, cracks, and end-checking which can mar an otherwise spectacular piece of lumber. At CSWoods, we often use bark art to fill these defects, achieving a level surface and adding interest and character to the piece. We use a quick-drying glue, and bark from the same species as the wood. The bark is carefully cut and placed, lending a mosaic look. This process maintains the beauty of the original wood while eliminating the unwanted hollow.
